Forgotten Tracks

Where the grass may grow and lights may dim but the memories never fade.

Dewey Race Track History

Dewey race track, located just one mile west of Dewey was originally named Lakeside Speedway (due to being built right next to what looked to me more like a creek or a pond) first opened it's gates in 1965. This track was believed to be used as a track for rookie drivers since there was such a long waiting list for the rookie class at Tulsa Speedway. The track unfortunately hosted it's last racing season in 1982. When I found out the year date that this track closed I am actually shocked that there was anything left of the track. You can still see tractor tires in the infield and the posts where the guardrails would've been along the corners. There's some new neighbors on the track now though, so you have to watch where you step if you're planning on taking a walk along this track from the past.

I would like to thank Tom Loftin for his time and help on the history of the Dewey - Lakeside Speedway.
